Eganville Leader

Branding, Digital

The purpose of this project was to design a mobile version of the Eganville Leader; a small town newspaper based in Eganville, Ontario. The design deliverables include a splash screen, homepage, article, and navigation. This project aimed to create a smooth transition from print to digital while retaining the look and feel of the physical paper.

Were it left to me to decide if we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.

Since the app is for a weekly local newspaper — and not a daily newspaper like the New York Times — I needed to find a way that I could organize their stories that wasn’t too compact or three dimensional. I decided early on that in much of the same fashion as the acutal newspaper, the app would have a front page top story that was much bigger than the other stories. I also decided that excluding the top story, every story would be located inside of a container that designated its section in the paper.
